Not Everyone Goes to Heaven

The biggest concern of our culture today is that most people don’t think hell is real. Heaven yes. Hell no. It’s a funny thing as pastors when we attend funerals it would seem as if everyone makes it in. They could have been terrible, good for nothing, bums and somehow they are in heaven.

Do you know that only 59% of Americans believe in hell, compared with 74% who believe in heaven, according to the recent surveys from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. (2010)

• Only 32 percent believe that hell is ‘an actual place of torment and suffering.’
• 40 percent believe it is ‘a state of eternal separation from God’s presence.’
• 64 percent believe that they will go to heaven,
• Only 0.005 percent believe that they will be sent to the flames.”

Jesus tells a story in Luke 16:19-31, he says this (only found in Luke)

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20 And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus (God is my help), covered with sores, 21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side.[f] The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.  26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’

1. Hell Is Real (all throughout the new tesament many talk of it)

Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Revelation 20:15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Mark 9:43-48 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’

27 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house— 28 for I have five brothers[g]—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ 29 But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

2. Are You Living Like IT?

Another paradoxical fact is, hell is one of the main reasons most Christians are so lackadaisical about their biblical responsibility and disinclined to share their faith with other people. One would think the opposite would be true—that if they really believed in hell, you couldn’t stop them from constantly warning their family, friends, relatives, everyone about it and explaining how to avoid being burned in the flames. Then why don’t most Christians do this?

You don’t hang on a cross, if hell is not true. Jesus did it. He lived like Hell was for real. His followers and disciples did it. They all got tortured and beaten living like hell is for real. Today in other countries Christians are dying by gun shots, slayings, beheading and refusing to denounce their faith because heaven is Real. But so is Hell.
