It’s His Will to Fill!!

(Example of Young Teens That Were Changed by the Power of God)

Acts 2:1-22  The Coming of the Holy Spirit

1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested[a] on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

(these were the same disciples who were baptized and followers of Jesus)

Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

You may have heard of the filling of the Spirit, the baptizing of the Spirit, the pouring out of the spirit.  While this was common in the Old Testament through Prophets and Kings you would see the Spirit of God come upon Saul and he would prophesy, the Spirit of God would come upon Samson and he became a mighty warrior, the same is true of Elijah and Elisha and the like.

This became readily available as prophesied by the prophet Joel…

13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Peter's Sermon at Pentecost

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.[b] 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:

17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
    and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
    blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth…

We are filled with His Power to ALWAYS tell of Jesus.

A demonstration of God’s power is to lift up the name of Jesus.  That is the number one priority, to tell of Jesus with power.  The same power that raises Christ from the dead filled those disciples and is demonstrated through the gifts of the Spirit.

Even the uniqueness of the giftings is to tell and proclaim Jesus.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11  Spiritual Gifts

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom (The gift of wisdom seems to be the ability to make decisions and give guidance that is according to God's will) , and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, The gift of knowledge is the ability to have an in-depth understanding of a spiritual issue or situation to another faith by the same Spirit The gift of faith is being able to trust God and encourage others to trust God, no matter the circumstances. , to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit The gift of healing is the miraculous ability to use God's healing power to restore a person who is sick, injured, or suffering. , 10 to another the working of miracles The gift of miracles is being able to perform signs and wonders that give authenticity to God's Word and the Gospel message. , to another prophecy The gift of prophecy is being able to proclaim a message from God. , to another the ability to distinguish between spirits The gift of discerning spirits is the ability to determine whether or not a message, person, or event is truly from God, to another various kinds of tongues The gift of tongues is the ability to speak in a foreign language that you do not have knowledge of, in order to communicate with someone who speaks that language. , to another the interpretation of tongues . The gift of interpreting tongues is the ability to translate the tongues speaking and communicate it back to others in your own language.

11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

The filling of His Power is ALWAYS available to everyone.

In fact, at the end of 1 Corinthians 12 it says to desire the gifts, that means to want to have them working in your life.  Evident.  Moving forward the gospel here in East Houma.

So, the indwelling Holy Spirit comes in you when you are saved.  When you are born again.

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit comes upon you with signs, wonders, and giftings.

The first one you come as you are and follow Jesus.  Leave everything and surrender.

The second one comes upon you much like the day of Pentecost and empowers you.

Peter was Christ Disciple saved during Jesus’s ministry.

But Peter was filled with God’s power on Pentecost and the result is tremendous.

And they both came the same way.  Faith.  Believing God’s word to be true.

You don’t have to conjure anything up.   God’s power is available to anyone who believes.

37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
